How can we embrace rural education and use it to our advantage?
Our day will start with DPI updates, WISEdash exploration, district networking, and exploring strategies from our book study–Invest in Your Best.
Then, we will be joined by Dr. Amy Price-Azano, Director of the Virginia Tech Center for Rural Education and professor of rural education and adolescent literacy in the School of Education. Currently, Dr. Azano is co-editor of The Rural Educator, and she has authored many books on rural education. She will help us (re)frame rural community assets—such as close-knit social ties, local culture, and high quality of life—as primary selling points rather than challenges when hiring educators. Dr. Azano will also speak about ways to build systemic administrative support, mentoring, and professional networks to mitigate teacher burnout and isolation in rural districts.
